NEW computer after 13 years…

By
Finally pulled the trigger on a decent NEW computer last night.

Looked for a decent workstation to run CAD (Solidworks mostly and Pro/E) as my laptop (Dell Precision M70) is getting long in the tooth (7 years old) and has never really liked resource heavy applications all that much (but has run them).

I had an OLD Dell Precision 620 (dual 1.8 Xeons) that my parents still like (runs win2k though). I was looking at used Dell 670s, 690s, and the next was T5400s. But as I looked at the prices going (for USED) I figured I could get a nice NEW one for about the same price.

So I did.

Dell – Studio XPS Desktop / Intel® Core™ i5 Processor / 6GB Memory / 1TB Hard Drive – X8300-197NBK

I never thought I’d need a TerraByte hard drive until I started loading all my CDs into iTunes last week. The 40GB drive on this computer is getting full…

oh, and digital edition DVDs…. OMG those take up some space each too!

Good thing I’ve got a 160GB portable hard drive…

Oh, and its an educational expense so I get to claim it on my taxes! YAY! (CAD and Chem Classes this semester!, and More CAD to come!!!)

I guess I’m excited… Going to be about 2 weeks to get everything in (monitor, keyboard, etc). I guess the CD collection will be done by then!
