Electronic conversion on 66 318 poly

I’m confused…I’ve searched this forum and it didn’t help me so thus the post…..why do some conversion kits have the distributor included? Can I change from points to Elec. (petronix Ignitor II $89) with just the stuff that goes inside the dist cap??? I’ve seen some posts where the coil needs to be replaced along with other stuff……I have just the basic stock 318 poly that I can’t seem to get the points adjusted correctly to give me the dwell I need…..your wisdom and advice is appreciated
