Choke vs. no choke

Hey guys, I just rebuilt my Thermo-Quad carb and while I was getting the linkage hooked back up one of the choke linkage pieces broke. I just removed the choke hardware (left on the fast-idle stuff though) and figured I could just run without one, but I don't want it to be a huge hassle to start cold. BTW this is going on my mildly-rodded street 318. The main reason I ask is because it seemed like before when the engine had the stock 2-bbl. BBD the choke was barely needed even when starting in cold weather.
