I have alittle problem that I could use some help with and there's no better place to go than here. put on your thinking caps, here we go. I've got a 366 on alky, brand new K-B carb,Edelbrock intake, schneider cam .530 int 288 dur, 13.2 comp,Icon pistons, stock la heads 202 160 ,kse tandam fuel pump,3psi idle 8.5 @ rpm, Mallory Unilite distriburter. in the intake we have installed a left right divider 3/8 of an inch off the bottom of the floor to the base of the carb. Now the problem, I keep burning the corner pistons, melting the spark plugs. all this happens with the temp at 160 to 180 degs. I'm lost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the burn marks this time are showing signs of detenion so I'm leaning to an Ing problem. the dist is locked at 0 deg and the timing is set @ 33 degs. I have been told to go to a MSD set up to fix the problem, but I don't know anything about them or what to get part number wise.
Any thoughts on this would be a big help, or part numbers for MSD that is IMCA legal. I've been through 3 sets of pistons and 3 sleeves in this engine and it's getting very costly. if I've forgotten anything or you need more info let me know. Thanks in advance Guys.

Today, I got a letter from Chrysler advising me that they were extending the warranty on my turn signal multifunction switch to 10 years or 150,000 miles, because of a potential manufacturing process variation that could cause the turn signals to flash opposite to that selected.

The problem may exist on 2006 Ram 1500 and 2500 trucks.

So far, no problems with that, but I will keep the letter for future reference.

Hey guys Im looking for a high perf. clutch and fly wheel if any one has one that they don't plan on using any more lying around. Bell housing too. Thinking about going with the manual 3 spd instead of the 904. The new car is set up for it so thought i'd go that way. Thanks!

I tried to post a message to the small-block engines folder but was informed that I had not acquired priviledges to post there.

I have recently acquired a '66 Dodge Charger with a 318 and A/T, and was thinking of rebuilding a circa 1973-340-CID engine for it. I have it sittng in my shop and haven't started to tear it down for a rebuild yet. I was told it was frozen and I couldn't turn the engine by hand. Has anyone rebuilt a 1973 340? I am thinking of experimenting with a Race Brown St-21. I heard about that cam many years ago and wonder if it is still something someone would consider for this engine.

I also have a 1960 Dodge Seneca 4-door post with a 225 /6 and 3-speed manual that is awaiting its turn at some restoration. it's in pretty bad shape with severe rust-out and rust-through in the unibody. That one also needs a starter that I haven't been able to find. NAPA doesn't have one.

Well, anyway, I am located in Maine and half the time I am out of the country for my work.

I am going with a B-body approach this year. Couldn't go wrong with an already built car and all the extra parts for the price. I have been changing quite a bit of things for weight and safety. It has a stock steering column and I am cutting all that heavy stuff out to put in a 3/4 in rod and u-joint steering. On my other car (lebaron) i just made the stock splined piece that goes on the steering box work with a 3/4 in rod and a u-joint about 8 in up. But i want to use a u-joint there instead this year on the b-body. I have been trying to find a U-joint for the 36 spline sector. I have found a few on summit, jegs and a double joint on speedway. My question is did mopar steering box splines pretty much stay the same throughout the years? this one lists its for a e-body. But guessing like most things it will work with the B-Body sector.

I recently stumbled onto this site and decided to join to check it out. I've finally finished the home renovation projects required by "The Dark Side" and can now get back to working on my cars. The first thing I need to finish up is a renovation of my 1947 CJ2A. I'm about 80% done. It's Chevy powered, so I won't be posting too much about it here. When it's finished, I will be updating my poor neglected Duster, the junkyard 318 is dying fast.

hello everyone, I have a 69 runner with a 383 that i am looking to rebuild again, never let a chevy guy touch your mopar!I learned my lesson, I am looking for around 450-500 hp it will be a street car. this is what i have right now 1970 383 block 0 deck kb 400 pistons .040 over, 440 source stealth heads no port work comp 280 cam,1.5 roller rockers, edelbrock perf rpm intake, 750 demon carb . the car is a 4 spd with 3.55 suregrip. also I will be running hp manifolds with 3 inch pipe from them back. any info on this would be very helpfull thank you

Hello, and let me introduce myself!

Well,
I have come up with a viable solution for those doggone rear mixture screws on the Sixpack/6BBL setups. This was spawned by the need for adjusting my own setup on my '69 1/2 A-12 Super Bee easily and without having to shell out a gob of cash on those "other guys'" billet base plates where you have to remove the thing, swap the butterflies and grind away some of the bowls to still be able to access their "relocated", angled screws. Not only does this detract from the originality but it is a flat PITA! I have devised a long reach tool and special alloy hex-head screws that replace the original slotted ones. By using my tool, which has a ball-end, you can reach the screws from the side and make quick adjustments WITHOUT having to pull the carbs to do so!! Usually, one would adjust the front carb and then swap it with the rear and then adjust it but that is not always foolproof as those of you Sixpack owners have surely found to be the case. Once these screws are in place, the OEM look is still there and any further adjustments are quick and easy!

Now you can keep some of your hard earned $$ in your pocket and the originality of your beloved Mope intact! This is an inhancement by a Mopar guy for Mopar guys & gals......enough said.

Now for some of the particulars.

I used blue 1/4" OD Turcite for the handles. The overall length of the tool is 9 3/8" and is small enough to reach through the linkages and long enough to grab easily. I have decided to use the non-compliant, straight shank because it is a bit less "fidgety" to manipulate. With the undercut that I put on the ball end I achieve 25-degrees of compliance which is quite sufficient given the acute angle necessary to gain access to the screw heads. And being that my machined screws are a bit longer than the originals, it easier to "target". The screws are alloy steel and are tough. Not that this should matter but I did it for machinability and longevity. The handles are CNC engraved in one area as to make indexing a breeze. The down side is that even though I can bang these out fairly quickly, I do not have a chucker lathe to my avail so it is a bit time-consuming to make the screws on a single post Hardinge but I have a system in place none-the-less.

I've been doing this a long time so you can rest assured that these are made right and will last.

I have a couple of sets ready for immediate shipping (1 tool & 2 screws) and 6 more in the works by the end of next week.for those of my Mopar bretheren who wish to have these in their "stash".

I am offering these for $45.00 for the tool + the two screws and $60.00 with all four screws...and I'll pick up the shipping within the lower 48!
They will come in a mailer via USPS and will be carefully wrapped in a clear plastic tube which will serve as a sheath to protect it in your toolbox from the other tools that don't want to play nice in there!

Does anyone know the pros or cons about putting either the Edelbrock or Mopar aluminum heads on a 74' 318 block.

Also, the reason I'm wanting to put these on are I was told that I'm having issues with a Edelbrock performer intake working with my stock heads because of port mismatching. i was told a good thing a person can do is put the Magnum heads on my block. I have a 65 Belvedere with an automatic column shift.

I bought a 1969 Roadrunner off e-bay. The car was towed from Alabama to Minnesota last week-end. It was owned by the same family since 1972. Before that I don't know. The car looks to be a true survivor with original paint. The car is as base unit Roadrunner as you can get. 383 (lowest engine option) 727 auto and white (lowest paint option.) This car is screaming for a custom build. Maybe a hemi in the future? Because it is such a base model it would not be any real big sin. The frame and body is even better than I thought with just very minor frame and floor/truck surface rust. The paint has some of the usual paint bubbling on some edges but not even close to needing any fill. Mechanically the car runs and drives well. Has a little pep but nothing more than what a stock 383 with an upgraded Edelbrock Perfomer intake and Holley 650 carb with 1 3/4" headers should have. The manual drum brakes suck but do stop the car. Power steering works well. The car has new 20" rim and tires (about $2000 new for these) but totally wrong for a classic. But they work. The wheels, headrests and chrome bumpers were stolen earlier (Thus the white replacement bumpers that actually don't look too bad) I guess they have a real theft problem there. And of course, some common electrical issues. (Taillights, gas gauge, dome light ect. Motor does have an aftermarket MSD 6al with MSD dist. Interior is not too bad at all. Will need some work but it is respectable as is.

Being the car is ok as is, it is behind the Duster (that is all but completed for 2012 drag race season) and Cuda build. But it will have its day in the sun probably starting 2014 as some sort of Street Commando type build. What saved this car was first that it was white thus didn’t cook under that Alabama sun. And someone rust proofed the car which is a blessing on saving the car but more work if one was to restore to a “Barrett Jackson” level build. That would all have to be blasted out.

Whatever happens should be fun!

well picked me up a nice b body 78 cordoba. to nice to crash write yet lol. checked compretion 115 or better all around o yea its a 360 ci.pulled it out gave it a complete gasket kit, oil pump, time chain. threw a good ole coat of ford blue on it threw it back in with some cheap a$$ headman headers on it.i thought i was having probs with the holley 2 barrel carb. had it rebuilt.not much inprovment. went and bought me a a reman carb very little improvment."car bairly run before i pulled it out runs 10 times better after re install".any way i ever threw a points dist in to find prob."yes its a lean burn car". the car idles ruff ,hast to be idled high to run ,hav 3 vac lines thats it no leaks.at a normall stop and go dies fires up.hole shot take off it stumbles then lights them 60s on the back up.......my first ? when i install the fuel line into the brass fitting into the carb should ther be a needle valve in there,the first time i removed it and after rebuilt was not one in thier.remain came same way.this thing is going to get bad thing s dun to it if it dosnt come around

I had an extra 340 block sitting in the garage for a few years. Had it all greased up and covered after I bought it. It had some rust in #5 cylinder but I didn't think it was too bad. I decided to pull it out and clean it up and I took it to the machine shop today. Got bad news. Cylinder was pitted. I was told it probably would not even clean up at .040. They suggested a sleeve. Is it worth sleeving a cylinder? Will it hold up?

Wonder if you can help with another newbie question

I have fitted my new edelbrock rpm heads and performer plus cam to my otherwise stock 440 (includes stock rockers / pushrods). So far so good.

Next thing has been to check lifter preload and just want to make sure I’m going it right.

The procedure I’ve been following is:

1. Fit the stock rockers, rods and lifters and torque down the rocker shaft.

2. After picking a cylinder to check I then turn the crank until as best as I can make out I have the inlet valve lifter on the heel of the cam (I did this by looking directly at the cam in the valley)

3. Using a steel rule on the rocker cover edge and a fine marker I then marked a line on the inlet pushrod.

4. Next I unbolt the rocker shaft until the rods are loose (can easily turn using my finger) and then scribe another line.

5. I then tighten the rockers up,* turn the crank until the exhaust valve lifter is on the heel and follow the same procedure.

6. I then remove the rods and measure the distance between two lines on each of the rods – thus giving me the lifter preload / valve

Does this sound right? Is there some trick to ensure I have the lifter on the heel of the cam?

After doing this a couple of times on a couple of cylinders on each bank I have been getting 0.08 – 0.1 on right bank and 0.06 – 0.08 on the left.

I’m going to have another go this weekend but if they come out the same I figure I’m going to need longer pushrods?? I did read somewhere that you can put shims under the rockers shaft but someone over here in the UK said that that was a big no no and that you should always go for new rods (couldn’t really understand why this might be the case)

Lastly I appreciate that I really should be using adjustable rockers but 1. I don’t have the dollar, 2. I’d really like to fit once and not have to worry adjusting again and 3. I only intend to have a relatively mild street motor – no super high reving RPM.

Grateful for any thoughts you might have.

I have 440 big block in my 1980 dodge pickup. For the second time in 10,000 miles the fuel pump push rod on the camshaft end wears out. The first went 5,000 miles from newly rebuilt engine. I didnt find that one until it quit pumping the fuel pump and ruined camshaft lobe.Replaced camshaft with different brand and good used rod that had no wear on it. This time I had a fuel pump leak so i decided to check it and it is also starting to wear quit a bit. Havn't looked at lobe yet on the cam. I run a carter high volume fuel pump. The pushrod falls easily out of the bore when you take the access plug out and the wear on it appears that it has been rotating. I lubed it properly when installing it the second time just .Fuel pump side has virtual no wear. Help!

what happens to an engine when you spin a bearing? i'm curious i took my truck out the other weekend to show my friend what a beast it is. let it warm up to temp before i left my driveway, took it out and gave it, no big deal. mind you 440, 727,203tcase=all time 4x4. 4.10 gears and 37in tires. came to a stop sign in the county turned right and just let er rip! all 4 tires slid us sideways across the road, and the monster never slowed up! gathered things up and kept goin down the road and noticed a vibration. i've thrown front driveshafts before and figured that was it. driveshaft appears to be fine......start up the truck in my yard now idles great, moves, etc. rpms up over 3000 and i feel a vibration and it sounds different that usual just sitting in the yard. i'm afraid to drive it again without figuring out what may have happend......any ideas where to start? :shrug:

So I've broken my second 8 3/4.

On the first I knocked 1 tooth of the ring gear, and broke the shaft that resides inside the differential case, in half.
Then, last weekend, I cleaned 7 teeth off the ring gear.

The car is a '67 Barracuda with a 4-speed transmission and a 3.91 gear.
The engine is a stroked small block making 500 ft-lbs of torque.

Other pertanent details:
Correctly adjusted pinion snubber.
Sub-frame connectors.
Super-stock springs.
90/10 front shocks.
6-cylinder torsion bars.
The axle housing has been gussetted.
275/60-15 Mickey Thompson ET Streets.
Weight (with me in it) 3500 lbs.

Local Diff shop is recommending a Dana as the only way to stop the parts breakage.

Seems to me that I've seen cars faster than mine not have these parts breakage issues.

Any suggestions?

Hi, my jeep idles rough, mainly in drive, not in park or neutrual but drive, it dies sometimes but always starts back up, anyways i took it to get it smogged today from a friend and before he smoged it, he checked for DTC's, P0351 showed up, but the check engine light is not on ever? so he cleared the code, i drove it around a bit, came back and again the code came back. Havent replaced anything yet, and after reading some of the forums, its looking like a PCM, but I dont know? Can anyone help me out please?

I'm building a dodge dakota, and wanting to build it cheap. The truck will see track and street time. I am curious if it is possiable to turn a power steering rack and pinion into a manual rack. I've heard of people plugging the lines on the rack but I'm not sure if this is good for the rack.
