Or would it be better to buy a long block and just replace everything. I would like to keep it on the cheaper side and easier side being this is my first car to ever really rebuild. I know that I will have to find some parts to interchange. But I will have to ask those later. Thanks

Hello,

These arms are welded by NASCAR technicians to provide positive geometry in a suspension that badly needs it, and yet they still accept the stock ball joints and bushings. If you can find anything of this quality and convenience for anywhere near that price, be sure to let us know."

(ooooo..."NASCAR techs") Ok so I got them. Now I get around to assembling and installing them... finally. While trying to figure out the totally unmarked arms as to which side they go on, I saw something and asked about it:

Hello,
I am now getting around to installing these upper control arms in my Dart. I have noticed some mismatching between passenger and driver side arms. It looks as if the ball joint mounts are off ~1/8" - either one arm is short overall or the other is too long as measured from the bushing centerline. I know your arms improve the caster/camber, but should they not essentially be mirror images of each other?

Thanks,
Nathan"

The vendor's rather prompt response:
That can be caused by cooling from the welding process or any number of factors. Definitely have an alignment done and that amount can be adjusted for with the cam bolts.
Thanks again! Keep us posted on how it goes."

Ok. Now static camber might be fixed with the cam bolts, but what about when my suspension compresses? One side will travel a different arc than the other which can give too much or too little camber gain. Or would this show only in very "spirited" cornering? I look at them again and the caster improvement doesn't quite match side to side either, although not by as much as the arm length. Either side is an improvement nonetheless. Thoughts? Is this going to be a nightmare to align with a mishmash of regular and offset bushings?

Late yesterday, I got a call from my son Aaron who is attending Texas A&M. He first assured me that he was OK, then said that some guy just ran a stop sign and drove his truck over the front end of Aaron's Dart Sport. Ever get that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach?

For those of you who don't know, Aaron and I spent about three and a half years completely restoring his '74 Dart Sport we found in a salvage yard when he was 14 years old. It was his first and only car, being his daily driver for the past six years. Having never done anything like it before, restoring and customizing his car was made so much easier by taking advantage of the wealth of knowledge found here on this site. Many of you have been instrumental in the success and enjoyment of the "Dartster" project (half Dart and half Duster).

Until we get the insurance companies to settle, we won't know the future of the ol' girl. I haven't seen the damage in person, so I don't have a good feel for how bad it is. I'll probably go down this weekend and haul it back home for closer inspection.

I've seen several of you over the years post similar stories about your horror stories. I always sympathized with you for your loss, but never expected to be one who it would happen to. Just goes to show you that no one is safe from idiots.

We'll keep you posted on the outcome. Drive safe everyone.

Jerry

I paid $390 from Unlimited Products plus shipping about 3 years ago. I ordered it before I heard all the horror stories about the company. Mine fits GREAT. I even recommended them to my dad, but his didn't fit at all.

It has 4 holes drilled into it for the hold down pins and it is painted blue. It should just need a wet sand and re-paint and possibly a hole relocation if my holes don't line up with the pins on your car.

I am looking to sell my hood for about $300 OBO. I can ship it, but it may take me a while to get the packaging around. Here is a way you can get a quality hood from Unlimited Products at a fraction of the price and none of the poor customer service.

I may be willing to trade for a pin-on or bolt-in hood for a 70-72 plymouth duster with either the six-pack scoop or a some sort of a pro aero scoop.

Send me a PM. I got plenty of pictures with the hood on the car.

I'm getting ready to put my wallet out of its misery and will be installing a Dyers Roots 6-71 setup on my '74 Duster later this month, and I'd like to do any possible core support mods/radiator relocation mods before I paint the car.

Currently, the car is completely assembled (waiting to be torn down) so now would be the time for me to get any measurements for modifications. (factory 318 A/C car, swapped to a 340 with A/C)

I'll be swapping the RV2 compressor for a York Compressor, since the blower & RV2 will both want to occupy the same space :D

Also, I have a Vacuum Reservoir Tank (about 2 gallons) that I salvaged from a 70's Volvo, can I use just a regular Brake Booster check valve to keep the tank from bleeding off stored vacuum (to run the A/C and Cruise Control)

I'm in the planing stages for a '72 duster build. This will be a long term build. My plan thus far is to completely update the suspension, most likely alter-k front and triangulated 4 link rear. Stroked small block EFI, possibly disturbitorless ignition. I'm still undecided on transmission all options are open at this point.
As for the interior i'm still up in the air, but leaning tword a bench seat mostly OEM interior. With a completly redisigned dash and instrumunt cluster. I'm sure the dash alone will take the rest of the interior in a completely different direction.
Now to the point of the thread. I'm planing on doing several mods to the body, shaving the drip rails, modern flush door handles, hand built grill, relocating and filling the fuel inlet, redesigned side markers, LED tail and markers, as well as modern HID headlights. My question is are fiberglass body parts worth the cost vs steel replacements in terms of weight savings. I'm planing on replacing the hood, deck lid, and bumpers with fiberglass, and want to know if fenders should be considered as well. I have to replace the right fender for sure, (it has a dart fender on the car now) the left one is useable. Also this will not be a daily driver at all just a fun car for weekends ect.
Also how is durability of fiberglass replacement parts? Obviously I'm talking about quality parts not cheep junk, or racer weight parts. David

I put the car in Neutral and it will not roll backward, only forward. After dropping the Drive shaft, the car rolls freely in both directions. My fluid level is good, and afetr dropping the pan I found no broken parts in the pan. AAMCO says I need a rebuid? Wouldnt I have seen some sort of warning signs like slippage or something? Any ideas would be great!

this is just something i was just thinking about and going thought my old pictures and saw the picture that turned me from Chevy or Mopar lol. were like 3 4 years ago before i got my first car(67 4dr valiant sign.) i was more die hard then John McClane about Chevys yea i know i was stupid. i always wanted a 67 Chevy nova ll. dark gray and black rims. yea that was my dream car. well when i was looking for my first car, my gram told me about my step pa's brother was selling a car for 800 bucks, so i asked her what is was. and she told me a 67 Plymouth Valiant. i was like what the freak is that hahaha. well i Googled it and this picture came up. it was a 68 but i feel in love with it more then the cute girl in my math class haha. she didn't tell me if it was a 2 or 4dr so i didn't know that yet but i was hoping it was a 2 dr because the picture oh Google was a blue 2dr with tan/brown inside. it was just sexy all together. were my gram finally told me that it was a "5door" haha she said the trunk was the fifth door lol. well so i was alittle sad but i then Googled 4drs lol and i saw this gray 4dr with tinted windows and i was like yea i can make the 4dr look as good as the 2dr. so i went and looked at the car. at first i said this thing is ugly haha but i needed a car and i knew i could make it nice. so i bought it and if was feb. when i bought it so yea i had to shovel 3feet of snow to get the car out lol but it was my first car and i wanted to drive it that day. so this is how i got into a mopar head :) oh and the last picture is was it looks like now :)

Hi all, My latest project has been replacing my head gaskets, since I have had some outer-coolant leakage and random overheating troubling me for some time now, I decided to just tear the top of the motor off and go from there. To my Un-surprise the coolant channels were almost completely clogged, the valves look like shit, and it appears that this motor hasn't been touched in decades.
(Jerk that sold it to my wife said 5k on a rebuild)

My 273 has the odd-angle heads (1964-1965-2465315 casting #) but I do have the Eddy performer intake and carb already on it. I'm at that point where I'm deciding on either just getting a head job (No, not the kind you get in Thailand), and reassemble or getting a new motor. Luckily, All the other cars I have had came with strong motors so I have never priced a head job. My big question is whether it is worth it to get the heads done and reassemble this motor or just get a crate? I use this car as a daily driver, cruiser, random car show attendee and would like an economy small block that runs well.

After reading what I just wrote I realize that I really just want someone to hold me and tell me it will all be ok. Head Job optional.

I have been asked for a long time to start a body work tutorial page for anyone considering doing the work themselves. I am just doing this to help, I have been doing body work and paint work since I was 18. I have done collision work but for the past 10 years I have worked in the restoration end of the business on and off. I am sure there are many other skilled body men and painters here that can also help, and possibly do things a bit different.. but this is how I do it.

First off I would like to say that I wanted to keep this stuff in order but as I am bouncing back and forth with different operations it's a bit difficult. So I will add things as I go. I am taking photo's for this during different processes at work...

So... here goes!

Here is a car I have brought into the shop today. Sorry about the brand ha ha... As you can tell the car actually looks pretty nice... but alas it's not. The paint is very checked and cracked, lots of bubbles and you can see some rivets and patch work inside the lower quarters. Checking and cracking is usually the result of lacquer based paints and primers being used... if you run into anything that is like this I suggest fully stripping the car as it can come back to bite you later.

It's always a good idea to first look over the car before you dig right in. Sometimes guys will grind wobbly spots, dents or area's that need attention. Grinding them will leave deep grooves so you can see them once the panel is stripped. Here are some pictures of the car on the lift.

Just like the title says I'm just finishing up some winter warranty work on a stock stroke hi-perf 360. A little background first. This was an engine I built last summer for a customer, a young guy with a '73 Duster and a very tired 340 under the hood. He wanted a 500 hp small block and at first wanted a stroker but the budget said otherwise. In my experience a stroker bottom end adds anywhere from $1500.00-$2500.00 to any type of small block build. Add to that the cylinder heads that you really need to do justice to the cubes and it just becomes a lose-lose situation IMO. So what I did was build a nice solid 360 bottom end (Magnum block) with Icon flat tops, stock crank ground 10/10 and put the money where it counts--cam and induction. In went a custom Comp hydro-roller 242/244 108 .640" and on went EQ Magnum heads with what I would call a stage II port job. In the interest of keeping his stock hood an RPM Air-Gap went on top and a Holley 650 hp went on top of that. Now it's important to note that I never guaranteed that I would get him his "magical" 500 hp mark, but I did say I would get him close AND keep it civil. Dyno day comes in July and after a handful of pulls the engine is running really nicely and he has a REAL 475 ft/lb and 478 hp @ 6200rpm. I can tell he's bummed but I assure him that it will be more than enough for him for a long time. He takes it home and takes the car and the engine to some Mopar installation "guru" where the car sits in purgatory until late September. A week after he takes delivery of it he calls me up and says it smokes from the breathers like "I'm doing a burnout". I scratch my head and the only reasonable diagnosis I can come up with is a pushed head gasket. I tell him to bring it in and I'll fix it. He brings it in and I pop the intake off and take the heads off without touching the distributor--I love Mopars for that. Sure enough the head gasket is gone between 3 and 5. He claims he did nothing wrong of course and I ask if the timing was played with. He says no the distributor was not touched--I always make a mark on the housing and block when I find best timing and I can clearly see that it is more advanced then where I left it @ 35 degrees.

Now he says I can take as long as I want as he needs it for the spring so while I have the heads off I take this chance to improve them with some of the things I learned while doing the EQ's for my EMC 2011 360. Well there is a lot more to this story but I had the chance to dyno it today and I am impressed with these heads to say the least. Like I said earlier I did not touch the distributor from when I received it back--I fired it up and it ran real choppy and rough and when opening the throttle just a bit it seemed to labor and fight itself. Out comes the timing gun and guess what? I stopped reading it @ 65 degrees total--and that was not all in! I twist it back to my marks and the guns says 35 degrees!! Who knew?? The net result was 470 ft/lbs and 501hp @ 6200 rpm. You guys are the first to know, and did I mention that all I am charging him for are the Cometic head gaskets and the intake gaskets---Nothing else!! Oh I also forgot to mention that this kid takes every opportunity to trash me on Facebook. So now I'm a little worried now that I have put in gaskets that WON'T act like a fuse--I guess I'll hear about it when rods and pistons start flying. Thanks for the therapy--just thought you'd like the results--I do. J.Rob

Im told they fit just fine when you cut them to size (by design) and cost less than $20 shipped for the entire car. So be smart and stop paying too much for our cars parts!

Is this just a de-ionizer and pressurized water sprayer and chemicals themselves do all of the magic?

I am looking into doing some side-work and need the ability to make plastic chromed. I'd rather not pay someone else to do this if it is something I can do in-house on my own.

I have a 69 340 block. Casting numbers show it as a 69 and it is stamped EW340 (also coded as 69) problem is I can not find any vin numbers on the block.
I thought they were supposed to be just off to the side next to the "EW340" but I can not see anything there.
Am I looking in the wrong place?
Thanks
