Measured In Board spring kit today

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off
When I bought my car it already had the in board kit installed and never gave it any thought. I am replacing the 8 3/4 with a Dana from Strange and need the measurements so I measured the stock and new spring perches. The new ones are moved in 7 1/2 per side. I have alot of room for bigger slicks but just bought a new set of 8" steelies from Stockton wheels and M/T 9" slicks so they will have to do for now.

When I order my new Dana should I narrow it some? Like an inch per side or so. I was thinking that this would center these rims/wheels better and at a later date it would also still have clearance for some 10.5 slicks. It looks like I would need a 6 1/2" backspacing rim to center the tires now.

Header fitment”HELP”

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off
Putting in a set of Doug's 2" regular exit headers and am having HUGE trouble getting them to fit. They are in the way and can't get the motor all the way in before Dr.side header gets in a bind.

I am more or less just venting but if anyone has experience with these headers in a 65 Dodge Coronet w/a 440/727

Man sometimes I think it would be easier to take a sharp stick in the eye than work on this car. Every nut and bolt has been a pain. The weather is getting nice so I am feeling the preasure to get the car done. To much money in it to stop now so you will have to listen to my whinning for a little longer.

8″ rim w/10.5 slicks(safe ?)

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off
Is it safe to run a 10.5 on a 8" rim?

I had planned on running mid 11 sec. when I started my project but things got all kinds of messed up when I bought the new motor. I bought a new set of 30x9x15 before it bought the 500" but now I am thinking that the 9" slick will not be enough. I did find a set of 10" Hoosiers that they say is good for a 8" rim. Heck if the 10 is ok then why not the 10.5

I already have them mounted, stickers off and they won't take them back. I will go with the 10's if I have to but am wondering about the 10.5

Motor is “IN”

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off
Here is the motor in the car. Not wired or bolted down yet. I now need some help/advice on the elephant ear mounting tabs. The pass. one goes all the way over but the dr. one comes up an inch short. The frame rail is 3" wide. I am making the tab 4", I am going to weld the tab down and it will hang over an inch. I am going to use grade8 7/16 bolts. Will this be sufficient.

Here is the centerline(offset) pic. Does it look right?

Mind the T/A in the background my buddy is misguided.

440 centerline in 65 Coronet?

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off
I need to know the stock centerline when I install my 440(500) into my 65 Net' I was just going to put the motor on the stock mounts and use that as a reference to mount the ears. The dr. side mount is messed up so it is making the motor sit cockeyed. How/where do I measure to make sure the centerline is correct

My trans never really lined up with the stock mounts. I made a crossmember to make it fit but it was never right. It was a street driven car so it worked but with my new 500cid 650HP motor it is going to break something.

65′ Coronet K-member

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off
Is there a difference in the small block and the big block motor mounts on the K-member? I am installing my 440 and the engine sits a little cockeyed when installed. I took it back out and inspected the ones on the member. The drivers side one looks like it has been welded in by a hacker. The welds on the pass side look factory but the dr. side have hugh globs of welds all over it. So I was wondering if the big block dr. side factory mount was diff. from the small block mount.
I know these days they have easy engine swap mounts but was thinking back in the early ninetys you basically had to fab in the mounts. I think the people I bought it from didn't put the dr. side mount in perfectly square. I have always had trouble getting the stock trans crossmember to line up in this car. Now I think I have found out why.
I am putting in elephant ears to replace the motor mounts but would like to know if this is why my motor is sitting like this or this is factory. I know the motor is off center in the engine bay but I am talking about it being cockeyed. How do I know when the engine is straight and inline with the drive line?
