Interest in FMJ Meet/Show in 2011 ?
Posted by: | CommentsWith the university closed yesterday due to the winter wonderland, I had a lot of time to waste and came up with an idea. How much interest is there in attending a FMJ meet/show and even a little 1/8 mile drag racing in summer 2011?
I might be able to set up such an event on a Sunday at KD Dragway in South Webster, Ohio in 2011. South Webster is about 90 miles south of Columbus and 100 miles east of Cinci. Here's there website
http://www.kddragway.com/ It's a mom-and-pop strip, so don't expect a lot of amenities (They sell hot dogs, chips, and soda). Motels like Super 8 and Holiday Inn are 20 miles away.
I envision a Show and Shine with a few trophies, a short cruise through the hills of southern Ohio, and time-trial passes down the strip (Maybe an actual bracket race if there are enough registrants).
I guess the cost may be around $50 for car and driver and $7-$10 for spectators.
Please let me know if you would be inclined to come to such an event. If there is enough interest, I'll start talking with the folks at the track.

My rant on insurance adjusters with supposedly good hands
Posted by: | CommentsLast week some irresponsible oaf without insurance slammed into my 2006 Magnum SXT AWD while it was parked in front of my house. There was considerable damage to the left qrt panel, left rear door, rear axles, suspension, shocks, brake, tires, a taillight--and that was what was visible. The tow driver, after getting underneath and seeing some frame damage and other bits and pieces that were suspect, was pretty certain that the car might be totalled. I had it towed to a reputale Dodge dealership out side of the insurance's network. The dealership shop called the next day and gave me their estimate of $11,500 (parts, paint, and labor) and they too belived it might be totalled sine the car's retail value is about $14,500. Well, the Allstate adjuster says $7700-9500 should be the cost of repairs and that the shop will have to use some salvage parts and I'm a bit leery of that. I don't think I have any other optiuons but to get it fixed.
I'm very suspect of Allstate now as 2 years ago when my wife hit a deer with her Montana van and we took it to an Allstate-recommended shop, the work was inferior (her hood didn't get aligned properly, the paint wasn't a good match, and the salvage headlights they put in were cross-eyed and dim, they replaced the AC condensor, but not the damaged compressor claiming it was OK even though it was clacking when it hadn't been before the deer hit). I didn't complain as the car was 5 years old and we planned to keep it only another year or so.
I've had my cars insured with them for over 20 years and in the distant past they had always done right by me, but lately the good hands are just in my pocket.
Any recommendations?

Got me a 2010 Challenger SE
Posted by: | CommentsBought me a 2010 Challenger SE the other day. I chose Dark Titanium which allows me to have a cool looking car without it screaming "57 year old guy having a mid-life crisis!".
I had heard that most dealerships were charging full sticker for any Challenger, but I managed to get $355 off the MSRP after spme negotiation.

Magnum totaled-what should I get?
Posted by: | CommentsSome lowlife without insurance or a license slammed into my parked (in front of my house) 2006 Magnum SXT this morning and it is probably totalled. If it is, my insurance will probably give me $12000 for it and I have about 12 grand I can spare out of my own funds for a grand total of $24,000. I'm considering the following new cars --
6 cyl 2010 Challenger
6 cyl 2010 Charger 2.7
a PT Cruiser
a 6 cyl Avenger
a Malibu
a Mercury Milan 6 cyl
I use the car mainly for a 20 mile commute to work each day and a summer road trip out West. I just want something reliable and am not too concerned about "cool" (I have my old collector cars for that). I don;t haul passengers all that much.
What are your experiences & thoughts with these cars?
