3rd member identification

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on 3rd member identification
Hey guys, second hit at this as I've found some more markings. I need to identify the 3rd member so I can get a new gear set(3.23 or 3.55 )
I know it's a 8 3/4 rear end but the 3 common castings don't seem to match what I have, I don't have the usual 41 or 42 , can't remember the 3rd one.
Please look at the photos ( yes oily and the wet is cleaning fluid ) does anyone know what the 3rd member is from the photos, cast numbers and the large 3 digits painted on, also the bottom is yellow ?...

Carb vacuum ports

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on Carb vacuum ports
Hi guys, carrying on from my PCV question the other day, this is my Holley and manifold - front and rear views.
On the rear I have been using the full manifold vacuum for the booster, the one blanked off, should this be for the PCV ?
On the front I have been using the small bottom port for the Vacuum advance on the dizzy, is this correct ?And on the front there is a port unused with a black bung on it, what is this for and would it be ported or full vacuum ? View attachment 344403 ...

PCV – any pro’s or con’s

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on PCV – any pro’s or con’s
Hey guy's, whats your opinions / thoughts on running with crank case evacuation - PCV against just having a breather on both valve covers and the port blocked off on the carb

Are there pro's and con's ?

383 stock rocker shaft assembly question

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on 383 stock rocker shaft assembly question
Firstly, I hope you've all had a nice Christmas

My question to you, should the pressed out stock steel rockers be a nice snug fit to the shaft, maybe a few thou clearance or so ?
I know all the aftermarket stuff is either bushed or needle bearing, so I guess the stock set up is similar in intention to have a smooth rocking motion but no real play ?

I've looked though the manual I have but not seeing any spec for ware or serviceable clearance ? have I over looked it ?
I'll wait...

Current cam 180 deg out ?

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on Current cam 180 deg out ?
Ok guys, this looks odd to me, looking at these photos, the current set up in the car and when compared to the new equipment going in, crank at TDC No 1, there looks to be 180 difference in the cam gear position / cam position ?

Did someone put the current one in 180 deg out ? you can see the marker and its up the top and kind of looks like it's pointing down

Changing stem seals / adding valve springs with the heads on

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on Changing stem seals / adding valve springs with the heads on
Hey guys, who's done the method of pressurising the cylinder with air to hold the valves up whilst adding the inner springs after break in or just to do valve stem seals with the heads still on ?
Is this quite straight forward, any do's / don'ts or pointers please ?

Thanks.
