Aluminum Radiators?
Posted by: | CommentsI'm looking at this radiator for my 68 shortbed. I have a mild built 400 w/ a 2800 stall converter. The radiator in it now is 26" wide and 25" tall and fills in the space nicely, but its shot. I was looking at this one, from Summit but I'm not sure if it will mount up in my truck, and will a 2 row be able to keep my engine cool? We got hot summers down here.

Holley fuel line over distributor
Posted by: | CommentsOn the 400 I'm building the Holley 750 on top of a Edlebrock Performer RPM intake, w/ the common chrome dual lines puts that connection over the distributor.(this is an electronic ignition distributor) I've looked online for a "T" style line to re-route and come up empty. I'm gonna use the mechanical fuel pump for awhile so I can't just flip the chrome line. My question is 'Is this a fire hazzard?' I've seen stock hemi photo's w/ there being a connection in a similar place. heres an example.

See where the foward fuel filters rubber line is. Thats about where mine will be. Just wondering if I can do this and be worry free?

Been Kinda Busy (pictures)
Posted by: | CommentsWell I had to stop work on the Cordoba to do some stuff on the 68 short bed and one thing led to another and .... well I started by doing a tune up, then ignition swap instead, and went ahead and added a new intake.
This is a late 70's smog 400.
Before

After--Thats VHT wrinkle finish on the valve covers, I also did the air cleaner the same way, it really looked good w/ the Chrysler turquoise.
Then I ran across a nice set of Police wheels, 7" wide front and 8.5" wide rears, since I hated the wheels that were on it, she got new shoes, and I put 275/60R15 BF Goodrich's on back.
when I got em home

Since I was taking the wheels off and my "panic stops" were really "white knuckle panic, slow down and swerves" I went ahead and added disc brakes. (a Scarebird conversion)

This is a "before" shot of the truck and the hated wheels, thats my sons ride parked w/ ours. And the shop I got this past April. The shops gettin put to good use.

And heres her new look, I like much better. Those other wheels belong on a ragged out IROC.

After this the motor, though looking good was oil soaking and bridging a couple spark plugs up after 60 miles or so. I had a redone set of 346 head w/ hardened inserts that came w/ a new shortblock 400 I bought, but instead of swapping heads, I decided to build the old truck a new engine all together. I added Keith Black pistons to bump up my compression. Its at 8.7:1 now w/ the 87 cc heads.

Around this time, my wife,...my very understanding and encouraging wife got me to duck out of the shop long enough for us to go to the hospital and have our little girl, Hannah Claire.
She was 7 lbs. 10 ozs. healthy and she LOVES old rusty dodge trucks! They did an emergency C section because the babies heart rate had dropped too low, but everyone came through fine and healthy. They even brought me in to hold my wifes hand during the operation, which was intense to put it mildly.

Thats me, my son and his sister to put a face w/ my name.
After we got home I installed my cam, a Comp Cams XE268 cam kit. I bought it 8 yrs ago, and don't have which ever car it was for any more. I also have a RPM intake I bought years ago, and a Holley 750. Windage tray and 6qt oil pan. The other day I pulled the motor and trans.

I also have a rebuilt trans, and TCI 2800 stall converter going in. She has a 3:55 suregrip already. Winters comin' soon and I have allot to do to the old house too, but hope to have her all together again befor November so I can take my beater trash hauler to the strip and get a timeslip (after break in of course) I've never had a shop before and I'm luvin' it.

factory ‘new’ 400
Posted by: | CommentsI came across a "Factory New" 400 short block w/ flat top pistons .100 down in the bore. He sold me that and a fresh set of 346 heads assembled for a grand. At that price I couldn't pass it up. I'm guessing compression to be around 9 to 1 w/ this combo, using a thin head gasket. The thing that I thought was strange, is the flat top pistons .100 down. I thought everything by 77 was 8.2 to 1 (advertised) And you were lucky if you really had 8.0 to 1 compression. Any thoughts? The "New Factory Built Eng." tag has the part no. as "5 06"

different thermo quad bodies
Posted by: | CommentsI've got two different phenolic bodies off of the two TQ's I have. one is off a 76 400 lean burn and the other a 77 400 hp. The first picture shows a port on the 77 400 carb that the 76 doesnt have. BUT the 76 was a reman'd carb so I can't guarantee thats the right phenolic body. Its a lean burn motor that I'm converting. I need the 77's base for the ported vacuum. now I'm wondering if I'd be better off w/ its body as well. The one on the left is the 77. also theres a port between two holes in the front as seen that the one on the right doesnt have. Whats this vacuum port for, and the other groove as well?

also on the 76 reman'd carb body theres two grooves this plate can hang in. the 77 only has the one in the position the plate is in. The one it doesn't have is the one being pointed at in this picture of the 76's body. what would be the reason for positioning it in the other slot? Is it for gas mileage?

So which body do I want to use and why? Thanks for your time on this guys, I know nothing of TQ's yet but I'm learning.

lean burn 400 Thermo Quad ques.
Posted by: | CommentsI'm gonna take the lean burn off my 76 doba's 400 but the Thermo Quad on it doesn't have a port for vacuum advance distributors. The # on the back of the carb is 9105 S. Could I use the port to the vapor canister purge port? Is that one ported vacuum?
I also have another Thermo Quad I know nothing about. I got it years ago for free. Its # is 9058 S w/ 327 5 stamped under that. It would need rebuilding. It has the port I need. I'm new to late B's and thermo quads so anyhelp is appreciated. I want to go the easy route for now. When upgrades are made, a permanent intake and carb change will be done. Probably an eddy performer intake and carb. But for now I just want a decent driver, using what I've got. Thanks guys.
