Thrust Washer / Wear Plate for Roller Cam
Posted by: | CommentsAll,
I am trying to finish up my short block and get it all sealed up so that I can move. Anyways. I have a torrington bearing that is a little large to work with my camshaft and I do not think that I like all those small needles inside my engine when the bearing fails. I was thinking of making a brass wear plate to put between the cam and the block to wear down over time so that the block does not. I know cloyes makes a bronze wear plate, but I think that brass might be better as it is low friction and is softer than bronze. What are your thoughts? Anybody hear of a brass wear plate?

440 rod strength
Posted by: | CommentsWhat is the agreed upon strength for 440 forged 535 connecting rods? Redline is 6250 and I am using speed pro pistons (trw's). Bonus points is anybody knows the weight of a trw.

Carb and CFM selection
Posted by: | CommentsSo i am doing a 440 rebuild and expecting to be around 550 ft-lbs. I did a quick volumetric calculation for 446 CI at a red line of 6250 assuming 85% volumetric efficiency. 100% put me right at 805 CFM and 85% puts me at 685 CFM. I was thinking about going with the 800 TQ, but figured somebody might have some information as to a good carb selection and CFM requirement.

Looking for 8 3/4
Posted by: | CommentsI am looking for an 8 3/4 out of a 71 to 74 b body. I am not really concerned with condition as I intend to rebuild. 489 or 742 preferred. 3.55 or 3.73 gears desired. I am based in Annapolis MD.

Drivetrain Resto this Spring Break
Posted by: | CommentsSo I am looking at putting in a pretty stout 440. I am expecting to see 500 ft*lbs at the wheels. I will keep the 727 in the car and ultimately plan to put a Gear Vendors OD unit in the car. I will be putting in 3.55 or 3.73s Someday I may want to humor myself with a pro-charger. Anyone have experience with the 8 3/4 to dana threshold. I heard that with an automatic, the 8 3/4s are plenty strong through 700hp. I was wondering what yall's thoughts were on this. Thanks.

Wheel seal install issues
Posted by: | CommentsI got a 73 charger with disk brakes. I am trying to install the wheel seal on the disk brakes. One side went in like a charm. The other side is giving me a fit. I am reusing my old ones and put the rotor by the fireplace and put the seal in the freezer for a while. Any tricks to installing this or should I just buy a new one?

73 b body brake upgrades
Posted by: | CommentsI am in the process of restoring my charger while still trying to drive it. I just got all new ball joints, and painted everything with por15. This includes the nuckles.
Yesterday i put the car up on the lift and discovered the rear drum seal ruptured. I think it is time to look at the brakes now as i redo the suspension.
I think i am going to keep drums in the rear. Most of the load goes to the front brakes anyways. I think i would like to get bigger drums and maybe a bigger front rotor. I was hoping that there would be some part swap info for mopars. I would like to keep my front spindles the same.
I would also like to test the brakes lines. Can these be pressure tested or should i just replace the lines on a 40 year old vehicle?
